Cold Weather Grooming

Cold Weather Grooming

Winter weather and the cooler temperatures are underway. It’s crucial to maintain a grooming routine for your pets throughout the winter months to help them stay happy, healthy and comfortable. Below are some guidelines for winter grooming.

  • Scrub a Dub Dub: Bathing your dog in the winter helps remove dirt, debris and bad odors. Use a moisturizing shampoo specially formulated for pets and make sure your pet is fully dry before taking them outside. To help speed up the drying process, use a low-heat blow drier.
  • Brush Regularly: Brushing your dog’s coat regularly keeps their coat shiny and healthy. It also helps reduce shedding and prevents matting of their coat. Keeping their coat mat-free is necessary to allow it to insulate your dog from the coat weather. Regular brushing also helps distribute the natural oils in your dog’s coat and alleviates dry skin.
  • Protect their Paws: Salt used to melt ice on roads, sidewalks and driveways can irritate your dog’s paws. To avoid irritation, it is important to clean their paws after they have been outside.
