National Lost Pet Prevention Month

National Lost Pet Prevention Month

July is National Lost Pet Prevention Month. As a pet owner, one of the worst experiences you can have is looking for an escaped pet. Whether the door is left open too long or the pet breaks free from their leash, pets escape many different ways. Keeping your pet’s microchip and ID tag updated, and ensuring their collar fits properly are a couple of ways to have a better outcome. But what can you do before those panic searching moments begin? Here is a checklist of items to gather in advance to hopefully find your pet sooner:

  • Recent photo, description, microchip and tag info

  • A list of lost pet websites

  • Contact info for the local shelters and animal control facilities

  • Contact info for any friends or neighbors who can help search

  • A list of vets, stores and dog parks where you can post flyers
