Summer Cuts: Not the Best Way to Beat The Heat

Summer Cuts: Not the Best Way to Beat The Heat

As a responsible pet parent, you want to do everything you can to make sure your pet is happy, healthy and safe. When you look at your dog covered in thick layers of hair you might think a summer cut could provide relief from the heat. But before your bring out those clippers, did you know your dog’s coat can actually keep them from overheating? Your pets’ coats are essential to their comfort in the heat. Instead of giving your dog a summer cut, here are some other things you can do to help ease the stress of the heat:

  • Make sure your pet has an ample amount of shade outside

  • Keep a bowl of water nearby at all times

  • Turn on the sprinkler for a bonus cooling treatment

  • Take a break from outside activities and let your pet inside for a bit

  • Regularly brush and bathe your pet to allow for better air circulation through their fur
