Summertime brings its own set of potential threats to your pet’s paws. Here are some tips for protecting their paws when it’s hot outside:
-
Hot surfaces can cause burns and blisters to your pet’s paws. Before taking them outside, press the back of your hand against the ground for about 5-10 seconds to see if it’s too hot for your pet’s paws.
-
Try to walk your pet in the early morning or late evening when surfaces are cooler. Or, find a grassy area to walk your pet as an alternative to areas with hot pavement.
-
Invest in a pair of dog booties if hot surfaces cannot be avoided where you live.
-
Immediately after a walk, check your pet’s paws for any cuts, burns, or debris.
-
Wipe your pet’s paws after your walk with a damp towel or a hypo-allergenic wipe to remove any pollens that could cause allergies.
